A friend of mine wrote this the other day on Facebook and I had to share about what God has done in her life:
This morning, I was cleaning off my bookcase to make room for more books when I found something I hadn’t opened in years: the New Life After Divorce workbook I completed after my first marriage ended.
Then I started reading my own handwriting.
There I was, a little over 20 years ago, asking God to help me. Worried about having enough money. Worried about being alone and raising my children. Unsure which direction my life should go. Asking for peace, security, and contentment.
At the bottom of one page, I had written and underlined, “I want to be RESTORED!”
That was probably the lowest point of my life. Reading those words today brought back how scared and uncertain I felt.
I had to rebuild from almost ground zero financially. I put myself through college, started my own business, and worked to create a life where I could support myself and my children. It took years, a lot of work, and a lot of prayers. Looking at my life today, you might never know where that chapter began.
But what really stopped me was another prayer I had written. I wanted to be able to pay my living expenses on time and have enough left to take my children places and do things with them. And I asked God for someone to share that life with. Someone who loved Him, loved me, and loved my children.
Today, I get to share my life with Shane, my best friend. Seeing how much my children and grandchildren love him, and how much he loves them, means more to me than I can explain. Finding that prayer just days before our 13th wedding anniversary made it especially meaningful.
I wish I could have given the woman writing in that workbook just a glimpse of the life ahead of her.
She couldn’t see it then. I certainly couldn’t have imagined it. But looking back now, I can see how God answered those prayers over time, opened doors, and gave me the strength to keep going.
My life isn’t perfect, but I am truly amazed by how much He has blessed me in every area of it. Especially in the things I was so afraid I would never have again.
I’m sharing this because someone may be praying those same prayers today. I remember what it felt like to wonder how I was going to make it.
A little over 20 years later, I’m holding those prayers in my hands and looking around at the answers.
God, thank You. ❤️
